Somewhere at one end of the world, 5,000 rockets were launched massacring more than 300 Israeli soldiers and 1,100 civilians over a period of about 8 hours . I am talking about the war between Israel and   Hamas -led  Palestinian   militant groups . By the end of October , more than 1,500 Israelis and more than 8,000 Palestinians had been killed , including more than 3,000 children , while over 230 Israelis and foreign nationals remained captured or  taken hostage . The Hamas attack began with  a barrage of rockets launched from the Gaza Strip against Israel, while some 3,000 Palestinian militants breached the  Gaza–Israel barrier , killing civilians  in over a dozen massacres setting fire to their homes, and attacking  Israel Defence Forces  (IDF)  military bases  near the Gaza Strip. Meanwhile, Hamas declared that its
