Aren't we still desirous of the magical touch of the ‘Shaman’? Throughout history, every culture, from the most ancient to the most modern, has had its own version of a shaman or medicine man. These individuals, often seen as the spiritual leaders or wise ones, played a crucial role in their communities. They were the keepers of knowledge, the healers, and the ones who could communicate with the forces of nature.  Whether they were called shamans, medicine men, or wizards, these figures held a unique position in society, providing tribesmen with psychological safety through magic in trying times. Rape, rapists and the society Priyambda Samanta Roy, Sem II, 2024 We have unleashed another level of savagery. Rape has become as common as breathing today so how are wesupposed to prioritize it? It is being prioritized on the basis of intensity of savagery done on the women. 12 years ago, on 16 th of December 2012, we had Nirbhaya fighting for her life for 11 day and on 29 th December 2012 in hospital she took her last breath. Those people who had raped her till her intestine were bulged out of stomach and her body on verge of dying, threw her out naked in bitter artic night.   And now after 12 year another doctor has been brutally raped and killed at her own workplace and that also on-duty.There wasno part of her body that hasn’t had any injury, multiple bite marks and her pelvic girdle was broken leaving both her legs at a 90-degree angle. Are we truly safe? Ankita Majumder Sem II, 2024 As the country was going to celebrate it’s 78th Independence Day, a news spread like wildfire on 10th August, stating how a aspiring female doctor, Dr. Moumita Debnath, a second year postgraduate student at R.G. Kar Medical Hospital was found dead.  It was stated that she was brutally raped and murdered. Sometimes this care, this strictness, this protective nature can feel like a rope around your neck. And it feels more like one so, when it comes from a manipulative, narcissistic person. This person would randomly start to argue about something, completely illogical and will then act to his family members that he didn’t just spoke words of vulgarity to them. This person would never admit his mistakes, and will give the blame on someone else’s shoulders. This person would forget to bring back something which his family told him to and then will yell that his family members are a bunch of liers and that they didn’t informed him about the thing from before. He would completely give his blame to his family. A chaos so destructive that the feelings of those who are hurt due to this chaos can never be mended.  And that’s exactly what he did. She was extremely sick today. He came and asked if she had made some food for him. To which she said that she is sick, how can she. He did said it’s okay but she noticed how his facial expressions changed. After that with that sickness in her body, she made him a chapathi and gave him some lentil soup to eat with it. He told her that he shouldn’t have asked her about food and started to blame her for not making four breads instead of two for him during breakfast. Why you may ask? Till a few days ago also the winter air was thickly coated with fog and the cold winds were blowing at an unusually high speed. There weren’t any sound of people on the streets after a certain amount of time. The shops wouldn’t be opened up until it was 11:30 a.m. or so. Although people would be out for work, the vehicles would be running, going to places but still there would be a thick layer of silence and a feeling of strangeness would linger around.
